"If you have been blacklisted, then your IP sent email to a harvested email address. Either you know that it was done or you have a security issue."
The continued technical incompetence of these blacklists is almost as staggering as their apparently limitless self-righteousness. Perhaps they simply lack the intellect to comprehend that, if a spammer obtains a harvested e-mail address and sends a message "from" that address (how DARE they?) and, for instance, you have an auto-answer message because you are on vacation... Perhaps you do NOT in fact have a "security issue"?
Or perhaps the explanation is a lot simpler:
"if it happens more than once, there is a fee to request removal."
Ah, Goodmail Systems, Inc. You shall not be missed.

Subject: blacklisted by lashback
Hello,
Our IP has been blacklisted by lashback (https://blacklist.lashback.com/) who claim that they only list IP addresses that use addresses harvested from suppression lists and do not honor unsubscribe requests. We definitely have policies against harvesting addresses, bulk additions, etc., but many different volunteers are owners of lists (we have over 1700 lists), so we having a hard time trying to isolate the problem.
Are there list settings that would prevent a list from not honoring an unsubscribe request? If so, could we query our lists for the setting(s)?
What would be the best way to search for details on bulk imports or distribution jobs which are the only other ways that I can think of for a lashback address to have ended up being sent mail from our server? Unfortunately lashback has not provided us with the address(es) that triggered the blacklisting. We are planning to contact them to try to get more information, but I am not expecting a whole lot of cooperation based on what I have read on their site.
Any other advice on how to tackle this would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks.
