Actually, he did respond (it just seemed like I was getting ignored
because our news-server was down for a week). This was his response:

So apparently it isn't trn directly that is messing up. At any rate,
I have simply taken to sending his reply to the news administrator at
the site of the offending post. Sorry for wasting LMAIL's time with
all this......
