I've just been alerted to another incident of a delayed posting. The user
sent the message at 11:01 (am!) on Tuesday, and the message was posted at
04:56 on Wednesday. This is obviously unacceptable. Here are excerpts
from the headers from this message:
>Received: from OCLC.ORG by OCLC.ORG (LISTSERV-TCP/IP release 1.8b) with
>spool
> id 26437 for [log in to unmask]; Wed, 5 Mar 1997 04:56:31 -0500

>X-Mailer: Microsoft Mail via PostalUnion/SMTP for Windows NT
And here is the relevant part in the LISTSERV log file:
>5 Mar 1997 04:56:31 Processing file 26437 from [log in to unmask]
>5 Mar 1997 04:56:31 Processing mail from [log in to unmask] for UNSNETCO-L
>5 Mar 1997 04:56:31 Directory /var/spool/listserv accessed as virtual disk
slot E.

[log in to unmask]
>..
The syslog file shows that the original message was received by mailhost
(AKA oclc.org, same machine where LISTSERV runs) at 11:01 on Tuesday, just
as the message headers say.
There are two things I don't understand, both from the LISTSERV log. The
first is the line that says it's processing a file from [log in to unmask]
The machine "mailer" is our incoming Internet mail relay; it should not be
involved in any part of the process, and furthermore, the syslogs on mailer
show absolutely nothing around this time (04:56 Wednesday).
The other question is what does the line about accessing the spool
directory as virtual disk slot E mean?
Any ideas anyone? I'm pretty confused...
Thanks!
