The "vacation" program really isn't an option, as this list has only
been live for a week.
I have been reviewing the log file, and it appears that somebody's
posted messages are arriving with the from line reading
[log in to unmask] A received confirmation message is sent to the
listserv account, and then the error comes up.
I'm in the process of checking now to see if it is the same subscriber
that posted all these messages, or if there may be some internal
configuration problem with our firewall/mail router.
Thanks for the help.

I'm hypothesising here, but my first guess would be that some person on
the list has a broken 'vacation' program or similar that is sending
stuff to the list, wit broken headers. Most likely, it's sending it
back with the From: still set to Listserv, rather than the person running
the 'vacation' program.
Second guess would be some broken MTA that is getting the SMTP headers
(MAIL FROM: and RCPT TO:) confoozled with the RFC822 headers. But I've
not had my morning caffeine, so I can't think of the full scenario that
would cause this to happen... ;)
