There is a simple strategy to use in some lists to avoid excessive
quoting and that is to lower the limit on the message length.  I wonder how
many people actually read beyond the second page of a message.  I am sure
there are some and maybe to my surprise a majority.  It quickens the pace
of the discussion, perhaps for the better, perhaps for the worse.
 
I know I have not considered this pace of discussion variable on a list
but I plan to.
