Your advice is good, BUT since "they" are unable or unwilling to do so, I
believe you are within your "rights" to de-subsubscribe this problem mail
box, or set they to NOMAIL and let them fetch (if possible) the archives.
List-owners need not put up with flakey/broken mail transfer agents.
