The "STATS" feature is something was  very useful in the BITNET days when
it could  give a lot of  accurate topological information and  that, with
time, has become completely useless. The only  time I ever use it is when
a customer reports a  problem with it and I need to  fix it. Because this
command is completely useless, it will  never be ported to other systems.
A new statistical facility will be developed to replace it, but this is a
low priority item.
