REVIEW is only one method: subscribing/set nomail/get-search
archives for active subscribers is another.
 
Or how about the STANFORD Usenet Filter and collect addresses
that way? anonymous FTP site that college "password" (userid@node)?
your favorite web site?  Renting REAL mailing lists?
 
Wonder what the proprietary service providors do with their stats?
(I don't want to know!).
