Hello again,
I didn't get a response to my earlier question about this (attached), so
let me try asking the question more specifically in a short
questionnaire format. If you reply directly to me, I'll summarize the
information back to the list. Thanks.
But first of all, in 1.8a, is "Errors-To= None" a valid keyword setting?
If so, the rest of the questions below apply directly. If not, is there
any other way to discard all error messages at the source (listserv)
for several days (20), and is there any reason why I shouldn't do this?
Also, suggestions on any other approaches you may have taken instead
while on vacation would be appreciated too.
Thanks!

1. Have you set Errors-To= None (or equivalent--please specify __________

to access the list temporarily?
[ ] No [ ] Yes, for ____ days
2. If "Yes" did you find that this worked well, and would you do it again
under similar circumstances?

3. If "No" to Question 1, is this because you anticipated some problem?

4. What other approach have you taken to address your absence (during
vacation, etc.) from list-maintenance access? ________________________

SUBJECT: Summer Vacations
Thanks to Peter Weiss for the reminder to send to our list members about
summer vacations. I have another problem along the same lines that I'm
sure other list-owners have had too:
_I'm_ going on vacation for 3 weeks, and the most logical person to take
over while I'm gone will be unavailable too during most of that time :-(.
So I could try to recruit another temporary and trusted owner for that
time period, make up suitable instuctions, etc. (and I may try and do so
anyway). However, I have two questions related to the possibility of
leaving the list "unattended" instead:
1. Is setting "Errors-To= None" during that time a reasonable way to
handle this? What happens to all those error messages (I would
estimate 2000+ messages during the 3 weeks, allowing for the
accumulation effect of problem addresses not being deleted)? Is
there any reason _not_ to do this? What I absolutely do not want to
have happen is anything ending up at the postmaster's address,
especially large volumes of error messages. That will wear out our
welcome _really_ quickly.
2. Are there any other adverse effects of leaving a list unattended
for this period of time?
Thanks.
