It might be good to be able to compare notes with other list-owners using
the WU facilities.  My list suffered another mysterious shut-down over the
weekend, and we might be able to help out the new manager if we knew how the
other lists were responding.  The old manager mentioned problems with their
gateway on several occasions when this happened in the past.  If the server
itself is fine, and no one was getting any response from it, maybe this can
give them a clue.
