The simple approach would be for you to do a manual SET.
After all, usually these "group" or "redistribution"
lists are the abnormal kind of subscribe.  Thus, for
objects such as NETNEWS gateways et al., I would simply
do a
 
QUIET SET listname NORENEW FOR NETNEWS@*
