Hard to say for sure, but:
 
1) you might not have a full Usenet feed at UNCCVM.
 
2) the NETNEWS server at American might not be really doing
   a _global_ gateway function (though in actuality it is)
   for BLUES-L
 
3) someone set up the _local_ UNCCVM before a _global_
   one was done at American and did not realize to undo it
 
Suggest you contact the news-admin at UNCCVM, or
if you can't contact them, see if any one complains
if you first SET that sub to NOMAIL.
