Of course it makes a difference, it avoids confusion!  The listserv
is a collection of programs on a computer, the list is what the programs
administer.  If we aren't clear on this how are we ever going to get
subscribers to send commands to listserv and messages for posting to
the list, durn it!
 
Not long after Murph posted his gripe about the confusion a week or so ago
we got a long spate of people posting messages misusing listserv when they
meant list, including a long report from the Library of Congress, for shame,
so I finally sent a little note to the list about it.  No one complained,
but I did get several personal "thank you"s (some from the confused, others
from the irritated.
 
If we don't correct this there will continue to be confusion among
subscribers as to what is to be sent where.
