Subject: Paying for lists
Just out of curiosity, is the trend to *charge* subscribers to allow
them to subscribe to a list? I run several lists and don't charge
anything. Its a service provided. I think many list owners do the same --
volunteer their time and effort for the good of the list. Not really
sure why they (we) do it, but we do anyway. I am subscribed to this one
list (I won't mention the name here), that has somewhere around 2500
subscribers. Its list owner has been soliciting payments from the
subscribers ($50). They use Listmanager (commercial I think) as their
list manager software. I was going to inform them that they could
solicit a "home" from lstown-l for probably the cost of a smile. I was
even considering putting them up on our host (we run LISTSERV), but
unfortunately, we are military-oriented and the list wouldn't qualify.
Thoughts?
Cheers,
Bruce Bachus
