I manage BLUES-L via Netscape e-mail without a problem. If I were you I
would go to Options | Mail & News preferences,  and check how yourPOP Id
is set in. If you never changed the default "mail" to your real POP
server than that would explain ... Netscape (2.02 and up) is about as
fonctionnal than Eduora Light...
