I've found it very difficult to end an email discussion thread, even
after list-owners have said, "this thread is dead."  I believe it is the
result of the non-linearity of mail distribution and processing (human
and computer), and the human foible of wanting to get the last word in,
so that it appears that the "last word, wins."
