New-List= works no matter what you rename the list to.  Specifically
what error did you get when you tried to use it?
 
If it doesn't work it's news to me; I did precisely this two weeks ago
with a list that was moved and renamed and it's working fine.  New-List=
also works for lists that are renamed but stay on the same machine...
