If I use FTP to retrieve a package, I can't do anything with that
session until the file is retrieved. If there's a slow TCP/IP link
between me and the FTP server, that can take a while, leaving me to
twiddle my thumbs unless I'm using a multi-tasking OS, which excludes
CMS for now.

FTP tends to be quick within campus and reasonably quick within the USA
for those of us in the USA, but going across an ocean or other
international border often makes FTP very slow due to line speeds. That
also affects BITNET traffic, but who cares? If I ask for a file from
SEARN, I go on merrily until the file finds its way to me.

Just a thought,
Nick
