SUVM is adjacent to CORNELLC, and SUVM routes all mail for INTERBIT
through CORNELLC.
 
My guess is that the "DISTRIBUTE" algorithm has picked a different node
as the "best" gateway.
 
P.S.  Note that "SUVM.bitnet" == "SUVM.ACS.SYR.EDU".
      So, it's possible for them to be an Internet gateway.
      Does "Mail-via=DIST" inhibit this?
