IME, the spam addresses are used only once (at least within the time
period LISTSERV looks at), and so the spam only bounces once. A filter can
be used to strip all addresses that have only one error and get the
desired functionality.

A more sophisticated filter would look for a bouncing address in the
subscriber list and discard any that are not found. A short Python or
(ugh!) Perl program would do the trick.

Speaking of which, is there a repository of contributed utilities for
LISTSERV owners anywhere? It seems as if there should be.
