        My list of 300-400 subscribers has renewal set for every 6 months.
        Every Monday, I get a list of those who've been asked to renew as well
        as those who failed to do so (there's also a setting for how long they
        have to issue the renewal command -- I allow 14 days).

        If one of the 'regulars' fails to renew, I send a private note;
        usually, it's a secondary or expired address that they never got around
        to deleting (but had set nomail).

        As I understand it, the renewal time period is based on subscription
        activity. So if someone sets nomail every weekend (because their
        system goes down), they'll *never* be asked to renew.
