By "the manager", you mean the list-owner?  There are separate keywords
on the list header which control error forwarding vs. sub/unsub
notifications.  You could set the Notify= keyword to read "No" so that no
sub/unsub notifications will be sent out.  (Or you could enter a monitor
address there, to send those notices somewhere.)  It is the Errors-to:
keyword which controls where the error notices go.
 
I presume you know how to GET, edit, and PUT back your list header?
