If LISTSERV ever grows to being a big network itself, and if a list is
distributed to many nodes over this network, won't we senders of the
distributed mail be inundated with large numbers of the messages that
tell us how many copies of mail went to how many people?

The ideal setup for LISTSERV (in terms of network efficiency) is to
place a server at each node having other nodes with recipients downstream.
That could be quite numerous.

An alternative would be for the acknowledgments to back-track to the
original list server with each one along the way merging the data and
sending it on. This would, however, be a complex system rivaling
LISTSERV itself.

I just want people to think about the future, and the impact of it all.
