What I've tried:

1. rebooted the server
2. moved the .MAI files from the spool, stopped & restarted LSMTP
3. stopped LSMTP, returned the .MAI files to the spool, & restarted.
4. checked disk space (17GB free)
5. Using F-Scan virus checker, currently not running any scans
6. system backup not running at this time.

After all this, the files are still not being processed, but now the
log is full of
...dns_query_udp: error reading from 140.211.116.7:53, status =
WSAECONNRESET
