Couldn't agree more with you. I claimed  the same thing a few months ago
when I  subscribed to another  list on that "listserv".  Using different
syntax for the same commands, particularly when the syntax used, is used
by LISTSERV for  other purposes (for prive'd commands),  will just cause
confusion among the users (how the  hack should a user know whether it's
an "Eric"  LISTSERV or  an INTERNET one,  particularly when  many BITNET
hosts now stick to domain naming conventions).
