Sorry if I wasn't clear.  I'm trying to allow users to post to the list,
without receiving OOO messages from other subscribers.

The OOO messages are being filtered from being posted to the archives, but
the poster will still receive the OOO messages to their inbox.

Setting the subscribers to DIGEST isn't an option.  :o(

What is the "this" for "whom" ?

In general, the list recipients' mail MUA that generates the OOO is the
controlling factor on who receives it whether the RFC821 MAIL FROM: or the
RFC822 FROM:.  The correct one is the RFC821.

The thing that you could do is to set the recipient list subscriber to
DIGEST.
