Hi,

I'm getting plenty of subscriptions from USA and CANADA for lists such as
REXXLIST or INFO-IBMPC. I don't want to handle these subscriptions, since
my lists are only redistribution lists, and the original ones are located
in USA. (Harri had similar problems with his LISTSERV).

The problem is:

If I set a list as Subscription= Open, the user gets only a message
saying 'You are subscribed to the XXXX list' when he SUBscribes.
Now, I  see that  it's a subscription  from USA, and  want to  cancel it;
but I consider doing only a DELete too strong, given the kind
of mail the user receives (and given that one minute later I get
my reader full of mail saying "Why did you delete me from your list?",
"I am puzzled as to why I am removed from the XXXX list on the very same
day that I subscribed", or somesuch), so that I have to send further
explanations...

I could add a warning in the list headers indicating that only european
subscriptions will be allowed (as I have made, as a matter of fact),
but some people tend to subscribe without REViewing the lists.

Actually, the only method to have users get mail if they attempt to
subscribe is to define the list as Subscription= By_Owner. This forces
me to handle manually each subscription request, but allows a general
disclaimer part saying "this and that kind of subscriptions will be
discarded without warning". This is what I have made, but I *hate*
having to maintain lists which I designed to be open.

A (proposed) solution:

When installing the european part of LINKFAIL, it has been suggested
(I believe that by Udo Meyer; I think Phil has already said something
about that) that a Service= node,node,... or Service= Country,Country...
(perhaps with wildchar characters, as in Phil's proposed SUBNODE feature)
keyword could be defined, allowing a list owner to specify which nodes
(or countries) a list was designed to serve: a subscription from
another node (or country) should simply not be honoured -- or perhaps
forwarded to the appropiate peer server, if any.

Anyone had similar problems?

P.S. Harri: what do you do if you receive subscriptions from USA or
CANADA to a list such as REXX?
