We are on a very similar platform (Sun V880, Solaris 9, Sendmail 8.12.9, LISTSERV Classic 1.8e). What do your aliases entries look like? Is it on incoming mail (if so, do things run well when done by hand rather than through Sendmail (cat file | lsv_amin -t listname)) or outgoing?
Have you told Sendmail to drop a connection after a certain amount of time of null activity?
