The best bet is to see how someone else set it up, or
search the notebook archives for the discussion. By default,
notebook archived lists have it, the others don't (again,
by default). This behaviour can be over-riden. If default
digest, it's daily, by other choices include weekly or monthly.

Here's some previous discussion (also take a look at LSTOWN-L).

Subject: New LISTSERV Capability

The current maintenance release of LISTSERV contains a new feature that
we as subscribers can begin using for xxxxxx-L. This feature is called
DIGEST and permits an individual subscriber to request xxxxxx-L mail
delivery on a periodic basis rather than by immediate posting. DIGEST
is probably best used by those that enjoy the benefits of reading
xxxxxx-L postings, but are seldom contributors. Here's how it works:

I as listowner am required to provide LISTSERV with three parameters
that govern the way in which DIGEST will function. The first parameter
specifies the period covered by the digest and includes options of
Daily, Weekly or Monthly. The second parameter dictates on which day of
the week the digest will be produced. The final parameter regulates a
maximum line count for the digest so that you won't receive a deluge of
mail on an especially busy week. These are list-wide options; that is,
they cannot vary between subscribers.

I have set these options so that a digest will cover one week and will
be produced on Sunday, making it available to you on Monday. It will be
a maximum size of 1750 lines. This just means, for example, that you'll
receive a digest of mail before Monday, if postings to xxxxxx-L exceed
1750 lines during the week.  These options seemed appropriate to me;
I'll entertain changes if you feel strongly against any of these.

If you would like to try the DIGEST option, you need only issue the
following command to LISTSERV@zzzzz (or [log in to unmask] if you're
on Internet). Note: This goes to LISTSERV@zzzzz; NOT to [log in to unmask]

       Set xxxxxx-L DIGEST

Your digest will contain the postings to xxxxxx-L for the entire week,
with a summary of topics at the top to help you decide which of the
postings you'd like to read. If you try DIGEST and find you don't like
it, you can set your options back by sending the following to
LISTSERV@zzzzz:

       Set xxxxxx-L Mail

Give it a try if you're interested. If you have questions/problems,
give me a yell.
