I've just sent out  the update files for 1.5h and  was utterly astonished at
the speed of the DISTRIBUTE process...  There are presently 2357 files waiting
from CEARN to DEARN,  and still 915 files queued on PSUVM to  OHSTVMA so I had
expected  the thing  to take  several hours,  but the  installation memo  (100
lines) was received  by all 80% of  its recipients in about  5-10 minutes real
time (there are more than 50 recipients  at 50 different nodes)! Of course the
actual files  have not  made their  way to the  States yet  but they  are much
larger.
 
  By the way, a reminder for those of  you who do not have time to process the
2,345 mailings this list  generates a day but still want  to be informed about
'important' events:  I systematically post all  important information, notably
LISTSERV upgrade  info, on LSTSRV-D.  This list is Send=  Editor, ie I  am the
only person that  can mail to it and  I make sure never to  generate more than
1-2 mailings a  week on  it -- at  most. If you  are getting  overwhelmed with
LSTSRV-L, just drop  me a note and I'll  remove you from it --  nobody will be
vexed and you'll still be informed of all important events.
