I think I understand the question. "Why doesn't Listserv work the way I
want/expect (ie. accept EHLO)?"

I see nothing in the RFC's that states a mail server MUST recognize/use
ESMTP. Perhaps LSoft doesn't feel that the extra features offer anything
Listserv needs. I do not speak for them.

Agreed. We established that the question is "Why doesn't Listserv work
the way I want/expect (ie. accept EHLO)?" and that only Barracuda can
answer for their product.

YAY! Barracuda accepts ESMTP on incoming connections. Good for them.

I don't recall seeing that stated anywhere. I think no one else is
reporting problems because they don't have borked mail systems in front of
their Listserv. I use CanIt Pro, which uses sendmail as its MTA. Sendmail
apparently has no problem stepping down to plain SMTP when delivering to
Listserv.

Hopefully sooner, rather than later. This path will lead to the solution.

I learned a phrase from Lotus Notes/Domino Technical support many many,
years ago. "System operating as designed." I find it useful in so many
situations.
