Here at MSU we have....

SMTP_FORWARD_1="2*list.msu.edu"

where list.msu.edu -is- our LISTSERV machine.  I don't know how much
it helps (we've changed some other things too) but it does make 2
more processes and it doesn't seem to confuse the machine.
