All right. I can restrain my curiosity no longer. Now that (by my count)
no fewer than FOUR .UK sites (collect 'em all!) are engaged in a wonderful
multi-way barfmail festival with the SPSSX-L LISTSERV list on BITNET, I'm
wondering:

o Why do so many instances of this sort of loop involve a .UK site? I
mean, I know backwards they write names domain, but what is having such
a devastating impact on LISTSERV lists?

o Does my memory fail me, or has this problem existed for *years* already
without a permanent solution, and always involving .UK sites?

o Why has bodily harm not been done to those responsible? :-)

Seriously: I well recall a time when LISTSERVers (and sundry other mail
servers, none quite so popular as LISTSERV) suffered from a variety of
looping problems, but it seems that Eric has diligently squashed most of
them over the years. The glaring exception appears to be JANET, the U.K.
network. This particular loop-fest has produced around 150 or so rather
sizeable pieces of bouncemail so far, and more are certainly on the way.
This is one of the worst I've seen in a while, aggravated by the long
Easter weekend. What can we do, short of simply AXING the offending sites?

Buried in e-mail,
