I'm looking at that reference page, and totally failing to see what
the heck authentication has to do with RFC2822 compliance.

Especially since RFC2822 doesn't say anything at all about authentication.
In fact, it doesn't even *contain* the word "authentication".

A bit of Googling seems to say that the *real* problem is mail that's
showing up with other than exactly one RFC(2)822 From: field (ie either
zero or two or more).  Apparently some Outlook configurations manage
to do this wrong.
