Dear L-Soft International, Inc.;
Just recently I have moved into the area of the Information Services
Computing Systems Group. One of my primary responsibility is an
Administrator of the LISTSERV.
We are running Lsoft application on Digital Server 2100/200,
OpenVMS V6.2, with Wollongong TCP/IP, 640MB,...
(I know,...,we are moving into true Digital platform AlphaServer 1200
OpenVMS 7.2 with Digital Services).
However, at this time I am experiencing the following problem:
The Network Links.
Below is a return status on DCL command:
$ SHOW NETWORK
OpenVMS Network status for local node 1.1023 CRCVMS on 19-JUN-2001 15:40:30.54
Node Links Cost Hops Next Hop to Node
1.1023 CRCVMS 84 0 0 (Local) -> 1.1023 CRCVMS
1.4 DCSVAX 0 4 1 EWA-0 -> 1.4 DCSVAX
1.5 DCSST1 0 4 1 EWA-0 -> 1.5 DCSST1
1.33 AMC 0 4 1 EWA-0 -> 1.33 AMC
1.51 DCSPSR 0 4 1 EWA-0 -> 1.51 DCSPSR
1.301 ALPHA 0 4 1 EWA-0 -> 1.301 ALPHA
Total of 6 nodes.
I keep increasing the MAX LINKS with the
$ MCR NCP
NCP> SHOW EXEC CHAR
NCP> DEFINE EXEC MAX LINKS 128
NCP> SET EXEC MAX LINKS 128
NCP> EXIT
I am using the doubling theory. However, I started with 32, then 64,
now 128, now I keep incresing the number of MAX LINKS weekly (I know,
I can go up to 32,000).
However, the performance is going down with each increase.
I also believe that the new platform will (probably) take care of the
the problem automatically (the Wollongong TCP/IP does not!).
Question.
Is there any way I can force the MAX LINKS to go to 0 without rebooting?,
or,
without increasing the MAX LINKS (now almost every week)?
We are running
Number of lists Membership count
Public Total Public Total
----------------------------------
350+ 2000+ 35000+ 100000+
Your input will be greatly appreciated.
Thank you very much.
