Postings are automatically numbered when you specify "Separate" notebooks
because a unique fileid has to be generated, but apart from that LISTSERV
does not internally  number its postings. What you see  in LDBASE is just
the index of  the posting among the ones presently  available; remove one
of the LOG files and the ID's  get scaled down. There is presently no way
to assign "article numbers" or the like,  but if the list is moderated it
is of  course a trivial task  for you to  write an XEDIT macro  that will
insert a unique number on top of the message body.
