This message is a request for a feature which would affect both list
owners and site administrators. Consequently, the message is being
copied to both the LSTOWN-L and LSTSRV-L lists with a request for
comments from the list subscribers.

The alpha release of Majordomo 2 (MJ2) implements an "alias" command
which enables an individual to establish logical links between multiple
email addresses. An individual can send the following command to an MJ2
server to establish a logical link between the address from which the
command is sent and the address specified on the command line.

                alias [log in to unmask]

Subsequently, the MJ2 server treats messages from [log in to unmask]
as though they were from the original address.

As email has become a ubiquitous consumer service, it has become
commonplace for individuals to have and use multiple email addresses. An
individual who desires or needs the ability to use multiple addresses to
post to a restricted list must have each of those addresses explicitly
specified as an editor or a subscriber with posting rights. An
individual who desires or needs the ability to use multiple addresses to
manage a list must have each of those addresses explicitly specified as
an owner of the list. In an environment where most, if not all, users
have multiple email addresses, this creates significant additional
overhead for list owners, list moderators, and site administrators.

The implementation of a feature like the "alias" feature in MJ2 would
eliminate the need for multiple subscriptions from a single individual,
and multiple owner and editor keyword statements for a single
individual, and would reduce the associated confusion and administrative
overhead.
