I understand EXACTLY what you are trying to do.  I have a list called toc-l
that I send out as if from another address.  The way I do this is to send it
to the list from a mailbox that I created called [log in to unmask] which
forwards all of its mail to [log in to unmask] and it goes out like
this:

From:  The New England Journal of Medicine ([log in to unmask])
To: [log in to unmask]
Subject:  This Week in the New England Journal of Medicine

Is this what you are trying to do?
