text/plain (43 lines)

JBH Online (ISSN 0896-8241), a digest of worldwide English-language
news broadcasts monitored via shortwave radio in South Bend, Indiana, is
beginning to be distributed by ListServ@IrishVM as Online-L. The list
had approximately 40 recipients as of 1 January 1989; as of today
(Saturday, 25 February 1989 at 05:00 UTC/GMT) it has 399.

An attempt is being made to successfully peer Online-L. Thus far
we have possible/probable commitments to peer from TREARN, CMCCVB, and
OhStVMA. An EXPLODE command yesterday revealed that 347 subscribers
should be moved as follows for optimal location: 45 to TREARN, 6 to
CMCCVB, and 296 to OhStVMA. As a result of this information, Online-L
is seeking additional ListServ peers suitably situated to relieve the
anticipated burden on OhStVMA.

Online-L consists of the weekdaily digest itself (JBH Online),
which runs approximately 150-200 lines in length per transmission,
and various supplements, including a daily listing of selected items
published in the National Edition of the New York Times. (It is very
important to note that the Times listing, one of the more popular
items, especially with subscribers outside the USA, is a very selective
and subjective list of items that catch my attention. It is *not* in
any way a table of contents or index of the Times, nor does it include
any substantive quotation of material from the Times, which is
protected by copyright law.) There are fairly frequent letters from
readers, and much less frequent special interest supplements including
interviews I conduct from time to time. The regular transmissions
rarely run longer than 200 lines, and are almost always considerably
shorter. (Length cited is pre-transmission, minus headers added in
transit.)

Online-L is open to public review by prospective peers by sending
the command REV ONLINE-L to [log in to unmask] Sample issues of JBH
Online and its supplements are available upon request from userid

If interested in possibly peering Online-L, please contact either
myself (at Online@IrishMVS) or Christopher M Knaus (CMK@IrishVM).
Thank you.
