Hmmm....after trawling through the Site Manager's Manual section 5.6.3 says
that even after setting your site to STANDALONE you'll continue to get
inter-server traffic for "several days" but it doesn't get any more specific
than that.

Aplogies for the stupid question but I assume you stopped and restarted your
LISTSERV after changing the setting?  Sometimes it's easy to overlook this
and any changes won't be refelcted until you do.
