Editing .LIST files by hand is a bad and naughty thing.  Luckily, the
problems it causes are fixable.  Use the LISTVIEW.EXE utility to pipe the
list to a text file:

LISTVIEW AS_STAFF.LIST > AS_STAFF.TXT

Edit the outputted text file to fix whatever bad and naughty thing you've
done to bread your list.  Then move AS_STAFF.LIST out of
~\LISTSERV\MAIN, and rename AS_STAFF.TXT to AS_STAFF.LIST, and restart
LISTSERV.  It should complain in the log file about the list not being in
the proper format, and should proceed to fix it.

While LISTSERV is fixing the file, say nice things to it, and promise it
that you will never again edit its tender binary files by hand, but will
faithfully use a GET/PUT via email, or use the web interface.
