Particularly those of us who have had to deal with smart asses who enjoy
using this as yet another 'superiority' of Unix over IBM mainframes.
I actually had a user say to me, "Oh, so you're not going to fix this
because *IBM* (sarcasm dripping) says this is the standard?"  Of course,
he didn't even know what an RFC was ("Request for comments?  Doesn't
sound like a standard to *me* ...") and kept trying to tell me that
nothing is 'illegal' on the Internet since the military turned it over.
Urgh ... time for my medicine ...
