You can do this by deleting the archive files you do not want and
then erasing the listname DBNAMES and listname DBINDEX files.  The
next database search will reinitialize the files.  The archive list
should automatically adjust unless you have created one manually to
provide additional files (not sure on that, I just do the above step
and it works for me).
