Our e-mail comes into our domain via one of two MX entries, neither of which is
ddoc.adlt.com; thorium.adlt.com is the primary MX.

It looks like the problem is the RFC821 MAIL FROM: address. I've tried setting
the RFC822 "Sender:" field to a valid e-mail address ([log in to unmask]) by
adding a "Sender=" parameter to the list header. Testing indicates I'm still
getting the same error generated by the address [log in to unmask]

Can I change the RFC821 MAIL FROM: address?

Thanks -

It's the address used by LISTSERV to receive delivery errors for the list
named hiddtest. The failures you are getting are because the hostname
DDOC.ADLT.COM is not in the DNS. Many SMTP servers check that the Return-path
(SMTP MAIL FROM) address is in the DNS as an anti-spam measure.
Presumably, that host is the name of your LISTSERV machine. It needs to be
in the DNS anyway, if it's ever going to receive any mail.
