I'll bet your  configuration has LIST_ADDRESS = '' :-)  The defaults were
changed from short name + BITNET  address to long name + Internet address
to facilitate the migration to the Internet.

I'm not sure I understand what you did. You have to tell LMail to forward
mail for the  long address to the short address,  and servers running the
base  1.8a or  older may  forward  the mail  back  if you  don't use  the
short+BITNET combination (this is not a  new problem, what is new is that
this became the default option).
