Since some servers are not regularly upgraded to the latest level (there
are servers  which are still running  at level 1.3c), I  have found very
often necessary  to use the HELP  command only to determine  the version
they are  running. This  is wasteful  in terms  of message  traffic, but
the command  is required to avoid  sending commands to a  server that it
cannot support.
 
I think  that a  'Help Version'  (or somesuch)  command would  be useful
for  that purpose;  the only  thing  to do  is to  stop message  sending
after the version number has been displayed.
