When you create a new list via the WWW interface, LISTSERV will create the
necessary two (2) directories for you. One directory is usually under the
'LISTS' directory. The other is under the '~\ARCHIVES' directory, generally
in the web server directories. Using Windows as an example:

(Old Way)

~\LISTSERV
      \LISTS
         \listname1
         \listname2
         \...
      \MAIN
      \LOG
      \TMP
      \SPOOL

~\INETPUB\WWWROOT
      \ARCHIVES
         \listname1
         \listname2
         \...

(New Way)

~\LISTSERV
      \LISTS
         \listname1
         \listname2
         \...
      \MAIN
      \LOG
      \TMP
      \SPOOL
      \WWW
         \SCRIPTS
         \ARCHIVES
            \listname1
            \listname2
            \...

Since you are on VMS, your structure will be somewhat different but should be
similar to one or the other structure. In any event, by your description, the
~\LISTSERV
      \LISTS
         \listnamex

directory exists. To make the archives accessible via WWW you need to add the
second directory:

~\INETPUB\WWWROOT
      \ARCHIVES
         \listnamex

After you create the necessary directory, simply 'save' the List Header in the
WWW interface. This will trigger LISTSERV to create the necessary index files
in the newly created directory.
