If this is in the FAREWELL file for the list, LISTSERV won't make any
attempt to parse a substitution variable.  I believe this is documented
but I can't remember offhand.  The same situation obtains for a WELCOME
file.  These two files have to contain the full text and can't contain
substitutions, eg, &LISTNAME.
