Wow... just.. Wow.  That's some *seriously* old code. Sendmail 8 has always
done it that way, since at least 1993 (the release notes mention a *fix* to the
"wait for newaliases to finish rehashing" code from then).  I'm not sure if
there was *ever* a Sendmail release that had "newaliases" but didn't support
detecting a database update on the fly....
