Michael:

We started off by allowing attachments, but that quickly clogged the
server. We then limited it to no more than 100k, but our users were
rather clever and figured they could send several messages, each with
100k attachments. Again, that jammed things up (especially with one
list containing about 65,000 addresses). We not do not allow
attachments at all, except if an admiral wants to send a modest-sized
one. We found that most people could just include what they want in the
body of a message just as good as attaching a Word or Excel document.

Hope that helps.

Sincerely,

Subject: Email attachment restrictions

We are preparing to launch Listserv 15.5 and were wondering what other
people have done regarding email attachment size. Particularly any other
universities.
We clearly don't want to leave it wide open, but we don't want to be too
restrictive.
Thanks.
